7 Indoor Lighting Options

Your home is your own little piece of paradise – your place away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.  So if you wish to create a little more ambiance in your home or if you are simply looking for new lighting options that are not only easy to install but also affordable, consider these 7 indoor lighting options:

  • Picture of track lightingTrack Lighting:  Track lighting is a great choice for those who don’t have much natural light in a room from skylights or windows or for areas that are harder to illuminate like lofts and basements.  Track lights come in an array of styles and colors so choosing the best one for your needs and décor should be easy.
  • Wall Sconces:  While track lighting illuminates an entire room, wall sconces are used more as an accessory.  They don’t bring a lot of light into a room and are used more for “mood lighting” than actual illumination.  Wall sconces are very popular for smaller areas such as hallways and bathrooms.
  • Drop Lighting: Drop lights are very similar to track lighting in that they are installed from the ceiling.  However, unlike track lighting, drop lighting has Picture of drop lightsno “tracks.”  These lights hang from the ceiling but in a much classier way than spotlights. Drop lights are available in many styles and finishes.
  • Chandeliers:  These lights have come a long way since the candle-lit ones of Colonial days.  Modern or artistic designs abound, as do the ever-popular traditional designs.  ConPicture of chandeliersider purchasing a chandelier with a dimming option. This allows you to adjust the amount of light in the room so you can set the proper mood while cooking in the kitchen or eating in the dining room.
  • Arc and Floor Lamps:  Arc lamps are popular for those
who want the function of a “floor” lamp, but need the lamp to fit into tight spaces or a smaller room like a reading room.  Arc lamps can be designed out of many materials such as wood, glass, PVC plastic, and iron.  Wood costs much less than glass or iron.
  • Recessed Lighting:  Most new homes are constructed with recessed lighting in place.  This type of lighting is created by cutting holes into the ceiling and inserting a canister light.  These canisters, like most of the options above, come in a variety of sizes, styles, and shapes.
  • Under-the-Picture of recessed lightCabinet Lighting:  This option is less about lighting an entire room and more about lighting a specific area or an area where regular lighting such as track lighting or
  • recessed lighting is blocked because of the cabinets.  Under-the-cabinet lighting is a superb option for those who want more light at the kitchen sink and or over the counter tops.

Of course there are many other options besides these indoor lighting ideas, but these are definitely some of the most popular choices for home use.
