Pendant lighting encompasses a broad array of lights – anything that hangs from the ceiling, basically – and includes everything from chandeliers to spotlights over the bar. Use pendant lighting to increase ambient light in a space, to accent nooks or provide extra illumination over a table, for example. Keep in mind, also, that pendant lights come in a wide variety of styles and prices, so you can easily use the lights as decorative fixtures in addition to their more utilitarian function. Pendant lights can have several lights stemming from a main cable or they could be smaller, with only one bulb. Figuring out which you prefer, along with a budget and a style preference, will make your shopping experience much easier.

Having the right lighting in your kitchen is incredibly important. Especially in a larger kitchen, or one where you do a lot of entertaining, just your standard bank of fluorescent lights probably isn't going to cut it. Good

Kitchen Lighting Fixtures To Dress Up A Modern Kitchen

Modern kitchens are sleek and sophisticated, and often have a professional, restaurant style air. But unfortunately that means that all too often modern kitchen lighting is extremely industrial and utilitarian. Rather than elegant or decorative, most modern kitchen lights are stark, made of sharp geometric shapes and simple, bold lines. Traditional pendants and chandeliers look out of place with a...
Maybe more than any other room in the home, the kitchen is one space that often winds up reflecting the personalities of the people that use it. Big, luxury kitchen remodels have become hugely popular in home design, and more often than not they come with a few custom touches - whether it's specialty kitchen cabinets or a custom counter top or backsplash. But one of the best ways to personalize an...
Chandeliers are typically associated with antique styles and old world design. You know the kind - big, imposing, crystal-laden chandeliers made to dominate large parlors or grand staircases and are more about look than lighting. But if your living space is a little more modern, never fear. Modern chandelier...

When you hear the word "chandelier," you probably think of a huge fixture dripping crystals, with lots of little flame shaped lights - something you'd find in a ballroom or a fancy hotel. But not all chandeliers are quite so formal. In fact, I personally think that casual, rustic chandeliers are highly underrated. While formal

Daring Modern Pendant Lights For A Contemporary Space

I think many of us tend to take lighting fixtures for granted. After all, I'm willing to bet that - with maybe a few exceptions - most of the lighting fixtures in your home aren't terribly remarkable, and are maybe even a little bit boring. But I'm a big believer that the right lighting fixture can really make a room, and so much better if the design is a hop and a step outside the norm. I think t...
Choosing the right lighting fixtures for a hallway can be particularly challenging. Unlike most rooms, hallways usually don't benefit from any natural lighting, and often there isn't enough space to simply set down a lamp. That means any lighting in a hallway needs to be built in, but finding fixtures that fit the narrow width of the space and height of the ceilings can be its own challenge. Today...
It's hard to keep a home clean, as anyone who has to find a way to do it knows. But as difficult and oftentimes unrewarding as cleaning can be, it isn't impossible, and as with so many things, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Practically speaking, that means targeting problem areas and furnishing them intelligently to prevent messes from accumulating in the first place. One of the ...
