Contemporary Track Lighting for a Home Theater

If you’re setting up a home theater, or maybe even a gallery, track lighting can provide the perfect atmosphere. It’s the latest craze.  Track lighting has superb advantages in a home theater, and the contemporary styles available are stunning. Surface mounted lights are easy to install because the heads are attached to a track rather than individually wired into the ceiling. More lights and less junction boxes installed into the ceiling will result in a smoother remodel. It all begins with an outlet adapter track to mount the lights on.

Track Lighting and Mirrors

When most people imagine track lighting, they envision something like the transitional adjustable unit. It can light up the wall, a sculpture, or a dark corner. You can even experiment with it after you install it, seeing where the light it casts looks the best.

Directional lights like these in the modern directional kit can also illuminate framed movie posters around the room. When my father installed track lights in his media room, he got framed movie posters for the walls and highlighted them with the lights. It made the room even more like a theater, though a lot of the featured film posters were a little outdated.

Progress Lighting makes this otherworldly blue track light from the Illuma Flex Collection. It is round and ethereal like a heavenly body looming in the vast cosmos. Imagine settling in for a film and dimming the blue orbs around the room to create an illusion that you are floating in space, suspended in the make-believe world of your movie.

This amber mini pendant hangs from a graceful stem. These golden pyramids could hang above an end table to drop spotlights on its surface. It would be so elegant to have pendant lights on an S track hanging high above in the center of the room, spilling light over a coffee table.

S-Shaped Track Lighting

Another gem from the Illuma Flex Collection is the long silver track light that looks like an upside down champagne flute. Track lighting has more success in smaller rooms, but if you want to make the room look bigger, a few mirrors can accomplish that. The tightly focused beams make great accent lighting, but in a larger space their effect will get washed out.

Contemporary Black and White Track Light from Progress Lighting

The wine bottle shaped track light boasts a black and white amorphous pattern on its exterior. In commercial use, track lighting is used to highlight specific products in a boutique. You can do the same thing in your home theater with art or furniture. The adjustable direction allows you to prevent any glare in your eyes or on the television screen. In all honesty, the best direction for the lights is pointed at the wall or on a working surface.

Black and White Rings Track Light from Progress Lighting

This black and white track light is very similar to the other wine bottle shaped track light. They’re halogen bulb cousins who come in pendant form. If your home theater is going to look sleek and modern, these lights are brilliant. I can see them in a media room with a soft white carpet and black leather couches. Divine.

Track lighting works great for a home theater because it is so accommodating to the viewer. These lights from Progress Lighting permit no glare ruining the movie, extra room in the cozy space, ambient softness, and they provide a unique contemporary lighting design.
